Dictionary Update: Manel

In the “Dictionary Update” series, I will share with you (new) terminologies that are used in society and academics, mostly in the context of equity, women’s’ issues and inclusion.

Here is the historic photo of US President Donald Trump signing an anti-abortion executive order, in presence of other white [men] that has far-reaching consequences for [women’s reproductive health access] worldwide. Because, obviously, the biggest stakeholders of abortion are men.

Manel combines the word “man” and “panel”. So basically it is a panel of experts or participants, for example on a TV quiz show or at a conference, that consists of men only.
